As you bite on it, a crisp crunch from the fried exterior begins your journey into bliss. This scrumptious little hunger teaser is best when piping-hot, right as they hand it to you. A tequeño is basically a stick of cheese breaded then deep fried. First, for your stomach’s warm-up, get a couple of tequeños. Cachapas y Más has exactly that.Īt this little eatery in the middle of tons of bustling businesses in a vibrant neighborhood, you can find some of my personal Venezuelan favorites. But, if you want something a little tastier, you have to find a Venezuelan restaurant with some variety in their menu. Sure, if you want a quick and easy snack, go to your local arepera. (Discúlpenme mis panas venezolanas, pero es la verdad!) Because arepas are pretty simply made, not much variance exists between Venezuelan restaurants that serve them, which means that many Venezuelan restaurants are the same, hovering around a middling level of mediocrity. While tasty when filled with the right ingredients, the actual arepa de maíz is somewhat bland and lacks a whole lot of flavor. Easily made and easy enough to produce in mass quantities, most Venezuelan restaurants focus their main attention on arepas. Good Venezuelan food is hard to find outside of Venezuela, mainly because the most commercial Venezuelan dish/meal/snack is the arepa. This Venezuelan restaurant found in the lovely neighborhood of Inwood is the best I’ve found for Venezuelan food in the U.S. One of my favorite eateries in NYC is none other than Cachapas y Más. What makes it even better is the truth that, “If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.” Some might think that the quote was about show business, but in fact, they were talking about food! Competition is heavy, so if you’re not good, you don’t last. People from all over the world converge on NYC and because of that, you can find just about any food you desire in the Big Apple. $$ – Cheap enough to double up on dessert!Īs one of the most populous cities in the world, New York City has ends upon ends of magnificent places to eat.
